ordinary wins

2024, Etching, 69 x 147mm

A friend once shared Wendy Cope’s poem ‘The Orange’ with me during a time when I longed to be more present and appreciate life’s small, meaningful moments. The poem’s celebration of finding joy in the ordinary inspired Ordinary Wins — an ongoing series that highlights these quiet victories in everyday life.

Warm Hands (2024), Etching & Hand-wiping, 69 x 147mm

I chose etching as the medium for this work because its labor-intensive process compels me to slow down and focus deeply on the content and the act of creation. The vertical plate format mirrors the size of a mobile screen, intentionally reflecting on how social media often reduces our lives to fleeting, superficial snapshots.

For this series, I focused on simple natural lines and minimalist composition, while experimenting with hand-wiped tones.

By framing these warm, intimate moments vertically, I hope to encourage mindfulness in what we choose to capture and to remind us not to lose ourselves in the act of documenting life.
